The Written Examination for CDS:

  • Mode of the CDS exam is offline type.
  • The examination papers pattern is objective.
  • There will be 120 total question in the English and G.K. portion but only 100 question will be in the Elementary mathematics.
  • Each paper will be held for 2 hours’ duration.
  • For every correct answer in English and General Knowledge there is 0.83 marks.
  • In Elementary Mathematics 1 marks given for a correct answer.
  • There is also negative marking for incorrect answers and that is 1/3 mark.
  • For the candidates, appearing for OTA (Officers Training Academy), the written exam will conduct for 200 marks because there will be no Elementary Mathematics paper for them.
  • Getting qualify in each and every paper is compulsory for next stage call.

CDS Age Limit 2016

  •  19 to 22 years – Naval Academy.
  • 19 to 23 years – Air Force Academy.
  • 19 to 24 years – Indian Military Academy.
  • 19 to 25 years- Officers Training Academy.


The Interview for CDS:

Candidates who have cleared the CDS written exam conducted by UPSC will need to go through an interview.  After clearing the first stage written exam candidate receives a call letter for interview. The interview will be conducted to test the intelligence and personality of qualified candidate.

The interview processes will be held in one of the SSB (Service Selection Board) centers in India and also conducted by them. The candidate will be measured by the selection staff after a deep and long testing process and with the help of so many tasks and skill tests.

The SSB Interview procedure comprises of two stages-

  1. OIR ( Officers Intelligence Rating) test.
  2. Interview ( Psychology test, conference, group discussion)

20 to 24 years as on 01.07.2018 (born between 02.07.1994 to 01.07.1998 including both dates). Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and Current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years i.e. born between 02.07.1992 to 01.07.1998 (both dates inclusive).

  • Measurement:

Min Height: 162.5 cms with correlated weight
Min Vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other



2. Technical Branch

• No. 200/17T/PC/M (Permanent Commission for Men)

Four year degree qualification and have cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with 60% marks

  • Measurement:

Min Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight, women – 152 cms



3. Ground Duty Branch

Eligibility Criteria

  • Education:

B.Com (Min 3 years) with min 60% marks for Accounts posts
MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International studies / Defence studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT / Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate all paper put together in Post Graduation (Minimum two year programme) and 60% marks in graduation for Education posts

  • Age Limit:

20 to 26 years on 01.07.2018 (born between 02.07.1992 to 01.07.1998 including both dates)

  • Measurement:

Min Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight, women – 152 cms
* Candidates, who have failed the PABT test earlier, are not eligible for this exam.
* Final year students can also apply for AFCAT 2017 exam given that they have secured 60% marks in aggregate with no present backlog and must be able to provide provisional or original degree certificate by 15 June 2018.

4. Fill all the five parts of online applications carefully including part 5 where you need to upload photograph, signature and thumb impression.
5. Submit the application and retain User Name and Password for future use.

NDA Exam Pattern

  • For both these papers you will get 2 hours 30 minutes each. The exam will be conducted in two sittings with a break in between.
  • The paper on General Ability is further divided into two parts. Part A covers English – 200 marks, and Part B covers general knowledge for 400 marks.
  • General knowledge covers following sub-sections — Physics 100 marks, Chemistry 60 marks, General Science 40 marks, History & Freedom Movement (Social Studies) 80 marks, Geography 80 marks, and Current Events 40 marks
